メキシコの左翼ゲリラ武装集団「EZLN（サパティスタ民族解放軍）」が二十世紀の終わりに示した市民の政府への抵抗手法は革新的であったとされる。彼等が武力から離れ、インターネットを駆使した国際的な情報戦へと移行したことは、武装闘争によって民間人の犠牲を拡大し、彼等の立場の悪化を目論む政府に対して効果的であった。
しかし、それでも彼等は過去の同胞のマニフェストに沿う形で武装を解除することはなかった。これは、武装が威嚇のためというよりも表現の一部であったと考えられる。私には、そのように武装によって非武装を体現する彼等の態度が、演劇的な暴力で暴力の概念を脱構築するルチャ・リブレのレスラー達と重なってみえた。

Arms that disarm, 2018

The armed left wing group Zapatista (EZLM), that criticizes racial discrimination and aims for obtaining social rights of rural indigenous people, is considered to have shown a progressive strategy of civil resistance. Their resistance was performed through the internet in trying to keep a distance from arms, and this was quite effective for the government aiming at worsening their reputation by victims of armed conflict.
However, they were not disarmed due to a manifesto of their former compatriot. That can be considered that their armament was one which rather implies a representation than a threat. Thus, their attitude to a peaceful solution to disarmament problem by carrying arms seemed to me to overlap with Lucha Libre’s dynamism which has deconstructed the concept of violence by theatrical one.
