中国語の「山寨; シャンザイ」は、有名商品の形態を模して、様々な機能やトレンドを組み合わせて改良された製品の総称である。その模倣行為はオマージュやサンプリングのような再構築の創造であることを強調し、悪質なコピーとは区別されている。とはいえ、その文化に馴染みがなければ山寨製品と悪質なコピーとの違いは見分けられないだろう。のちに私は山寨という概念を初めて認識し、彼らの模倣文化の発展の過程では、創造のオリジナリティの威厳よりもそれによって得られる精神や状況の変化の豊さが重要視されてきたのではないかと考えを広げた。
この予感は山寨精神の起こりを辿ると、「無常」のあらゆる物質の不変を信用しない態度と結びつき、山寨の創造性には彼ら固有のオリジナリティの概念や時間意識が関わっていることを理解した。模倣は学習手段や遊びの一つとして生活を豊かにし、やがて共有財産となった偽物であっても、永続的な組み替えと発展の過程でオリジナリティが見出されている真理に基づけば、山寨の概念は正統性を保っているからである。
私は彼らの山寨精神に基づき、真正の中国文化としての漢詩に着目して「七言絶句」を制作し、販売した。それらは自身の日記から引用し〈百度翻译〉によって翻訳したものである。これは時代の変化を写す私の山寨行為や、中国的な創造の「誤訳」に対する彼らの寛容さを知るための試みであった。
"Shanzhai" refers to a category of products that have been improved by combining various functions and trends through the imitation of well-known products. This imitation emphasizes the reconstruction akin to homage or sampling and is distinct from malicious counterfeiting. However, without an understanding of this culture, it can be challenging to distinguish between shanzhai products and malicious counterfeits. Later, I first became aware of the concept of shanzhai and began to consider the richness of spirit and contextual change brought about by imitation, rather than solely focusing on the dignity of originality, during the development of their imitative culture.
This intuition is linked to the origins of the shanzhai spirit, which is associated with an attitude of not trusting the permanence of any material, and it is understood that the creativity of shanzhai is related to their unique concepts of originality and awareness of time. Imitation enriches life as a means of learning and entertainment, and even counterfeit goods, in the process of enduring recombination and development, reveal originality based on the truth that is found in perpetual rearrangement.
Drawing from their shanzhai spirit, I focused on genuine Chinese culture and created and sold "Qiyan jueju" (Seven-character quatrains). These works were quotes from my own diary, translated using "Baidu Translate." This was an attempt to understand the reflection of the changing times in my own shanzhai practices and the tolerance shown towards the "mistranslations" of Chinese-style creativity.
