Keeping calm

ドイツ・シュテュットガルドでは、長年にわたり中央駅の地下への新造計画が進められていた。このプロジェクト《Stuttgart 21》は市民の反対によってしばらく中断されていたが、２０２２年の完成に向けて２０１０年ごろ再び動き出した。
私は自宅から中央駅へ向かう際にその工事現場の前を通り、日々変化する様子を楽しんでいたが、依然と続いている建設反対デモに度々遭遇し、複雑な心境であった。そして工事が突然加速したことをきっかけに、部外者の私がここの市民の問題に関わるべきではないという気持ちを、その計画にまつわる問題の一つとして提示することにした。毎月曜のデモに〈EIN LOCH OHNE BODEN (地面のない穴)〉の札を持って紛れること、そして工事現場のモニュメントを制作することによって、数年後に消えて無くなる彼らの反抗の軌跡を記録した。

In Stuttgart, Germany, plans for a new underground station at the central railway station had been underway for many years. The project, called "Stuttgart 21," was initially halted due to opposition from citizens but resumed around 2010, aiming for completion by 2022.
As I passed by the construction site on my way from home to the central station, I enjoyed observing the daily changes. However, I often encountered ongoing protests against the construction, which left me with mixed feelings. When the construction suddenly accelerated, I decided to present my feeling that, as an outsider, I should not involve myself in the issues of the local citizens as one of the problems associated with the project. By blending in with the Monday demonstrations carrying a sign saying "EIN LOCH OHNE BODEN" (A HOLE WITHOUT THE GROUND) and creating a monument at the construction site, I documented the traces of their resistance that would disappear in a few years..
